"Living on Earth" podcast June 5, 2015
In the podcast the parts we saw was all about plastic and how much are in the ocean due to different things, one being humans. There is so much plastic in the ocean thanks to us. Plastic is almost un-breakable so we have to wait for it to decompose for almost centuries. Micro-plastic is dangerous in the ocean since fish think it's plankton and eat it. 8 million metric tons of plastic are dumped into the water all year. The thing is we don't need all this plastic so we are just wasting so much of the environment for no reason.
This really just shows us how we are at this moment even though some of us are helping. There is not enough of us to help with this plastic problem. This could be used to show many people what we must do to help nature and not kill our food/friends of the Earth. Sweden is a good example of what we must do. They know how to control their plastic supply without causing too much of a problem. This is what we must do in order to not have the problem happen earlier.
We need people to know about this problem without causing too big of a hoopla about it. This will save a bit of the planet so that we don't have to fix it later and waste a lot of money. All we need are new laws on plastic or use of it like maybe just using reusable bags instead of plastic. This is how we can save the situation.

ScrAPES #1- "U.S. Will Call All Chimps "Endangered""
Author- NICHOLAS ST. FLEUR June 12,2015 Link: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/13/science/chimpanzees-endangered-fish-and-wildlife-service.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Fscience
Last Friday the U.S. declared that all chimps are endangered so now they will get help. It all started 5 years ago when Jane Godell when she made a petition to make them all endangered. Wild chimpanzees have been endangered for decades while captive ones were "threatened". This did not seem right so the petition was made. This means that all monkeys used for experiments will need a permit to get experimented on. this will mean that less chimpanzees will go through an experiment and possibly die for other things except their species.
I chose this article because the monkeys have always been kind of cool to see and look at how they progress. They are almost like us so they are kind of deserving of not being tortured and/or more. They are used for experiments than normal/other animals. I can see why this is happening so I can understand it better.

This is important because if we lose these chimps than a food chain in an area could go completely wrong with more or less animals than there must be. If we save these animals than an area could be saved and not ruined. Animals have to do with the environment so this has to do with our class. Now we just have to take care of these animals and hopefully they will reproduce and grow bigger in population.
"My connection to nature"
I feel as if I'm further from nature than I should be. I use technology way more than most people (especially my phone since I'm a teen). Whenever I go to the park I don't feel right and want to get out as fast as possible. I may have a problem but I don't really feel that it's wrong it's just not right either. I feel more normal at home than outside (but everyone feels that way). I do think that we use too many resources (like us not having coal in about 250 years). We are probably going to need to find a new power source. I just feel more alive around technology than nature.
