We have gone on a field trip to deer island and have seen the inside of a waste water treatment plant. We got to learn how waste water is cleaned through pipes in which gravity, microrganisms, and many more environmental aspects help clean our sewage and waste. We got to learn how this process is helpful to the environment and is more effecient than using machinary. The deer island facility was also the second biggest in the US and treats over 2 million people. Facilities like this are everywhere in the US treating people's waste water so that it is safe for the enviornment.
It's good to know this and to have because if we were to not have these than we would lose parts of our planet due to unsanitary living conditions. If waste is not taken care of then there would be disease everywhere, more pwople would die, and we would have less space on our planet to live. Waste water treatment plants help treat this problem and allow us to live with less disease around us.

Reflection on Food Miles
Food has many different conditions that can raise how mush it takes to make them. First you need animals or plants to make the food out of. Second you need to treat them and feed them well so you can get their meat as an adult. Third you have to package them and check them for any diseases so that customers won't get sick. Finally they have to be taken to the area that they will be given out and sold to. All of these increase how much food miles something has. Some have more than others just based on rarity or how far away it comes from. This can actually be very bad if the food miles get too high on a product.
This is why it is best to have foods that come from very near. The closer they come from the less recourses we need just to transport them to new areas without much problem. We wouldn't need as much fossil fuels and vehicles to move them around. With that the air would be cleaner and we would be able to have a cleaner planet in the process. We don't want to waste resources now either since we may run out of them sooner than later. We need to bring food miles down so that we can be able to have a better planet in the process.

Oregan Rancher Standoff Refelction
The Oregan Standoff seems strange to me. The leader of the standoff says that he is taking the land and using it to help the environment when really he is taking the area and ruining the land for the animals and plants that are there. They say that they like the environment when they are actually ruining it which seems very strange in my opinion. They shouldn't even had taken the land in the first place as well. They take the land to go against the government when really they are going against the people who live near there and want to see the sanctuary. If anything they are just ruining themselves with this strategy and putting themselves into a grave.
Even the ranchers who were accused of burning a forest (who the ranchers have stolen the sanctuary for) have not done much that should make the other ranchers fall in love with them for. There is almost no reason that the farmers should have taken that land. Even when you take into account all the other farmers a sanctuary is not something you attack and control that will make everyone fear for you, especially since they are all just plain farmers with no combat experience.

ScrAPES#18 "Large-ish meteor hits Earth... But no one notices"

There was apparently a meteor that came into Earth a few days ago which actually exploded near or ground and no one noticed it. It had apparently exploded no where near any civilization and no eye witness has seen this as well. Apparently it was as strong as the last meteor that came by Russia 2 years ago. This is a big discovery for astronomers since they've been wanting to know more about meteors as they get up close to get more facts about them.
Meteors have been a very interesting topic in space since there is quite a bit of mystery behind them. We still don't know if it was a meteor that killed the dinosaurs or if a meteor that is big enough to kill us will show up one day. Soon we will know more with more of these discoveries showing up which will open up our view of space more and more. Space is a cool topic in general and that's why I started to do this.
Sooner or later a meteor will come that will give us enough information to learn everything about them and how they work and/or started. Soon patterns will show up and evidence will come to how these meteors began. This will just be a piece of the puzzle piece that we need to solve in order to get the picture. The universe will open up one day to us and when it does we will know the future of space.

ScrAPES #13 "How the Epidemic of Drug Overdose Deaths Ripples Across America"

Drug overdose has been killing many people over the last few years. Many more people have been dying from it more and more over the years with 2014 being the peak of all those deaths. More and more drug users have been showing up year after year with some just using a bit too much and having an overdose to the medicine. Rural areas seem to have the most affect from this disaster.
I actually know someone that uses drugs. I've known them for a while now but i want to help them stop using them. I've always been afraid of people around me using drugs and start doing things that they should not do. This article really shows how big the problem is and how it needs to be stopped for the better of our lives.
Well a good way to show how to solve this problem is to show people how many have died from using these. By showing the amount of deaths to people we could show how this has become an epidemic. We could also start cracking down more on drugs and trying to stop them. This way drugs won't get to the people not causing them to overdose.

ScrAPES #17 "2015 Was Hottest Year in Historical Record, Scientists Say'

2015 has been names the hottest year in history. The record was only broken last year so it was broken a little too quickly. This has been used as evidence that the planet is experiencing global warming at a much faster pace now then it ever was. What has also happened is that this December was the warmest December on record for the east coast in a very long time.
I remember last summer as torture inside an oven for me. It was definately a very hot time but I did not expect it to be one of the hottest years on record. Although it was very hot so i was expcting to be in the top 10 summers. It was a very tough time for me since I did not want to leave my house thanks to the heat at the time. This is why i wanted to check this article out.
Well the only reasonable way to solve this is to try and find a better way to cause us to have less global warming. The only real way to do this is to have possible laws about the amount of co2 we have in the air and bring more awareness to other countries about it. If this were to continue each year would bring a new record to the hottest time. We must stop this as quickly as possible to help against such problems in the future.

ScrAPES #16 "Monkeys Built to Mimic Autism-Like Behaviors May Help Humans"

Monkeys have been genetically engineered to have the same affects as Autism. The monkey with Autism symptoms shows just walking around in circles and not slowing down. This will help with research against Autism and possibly create a cure or some medicine for it. One problem though is that these monkeys could be having a terrible time and could be suffering animal abuse.
Monkeys are a cool subject and have always been interesting. Whenever i see monkeys i always want to see them because of how curious they are. This though is very strange and i feel bad for it. It just walks in circles around the cage very quickly and nothing else. It does not look happy either since it does nothing else.
This will help with cures though and will be great in the medical field. It will be a great advancement and will help possibly many people. These are the types of sacrafices we have to make to help mankind. If something else suffers we just have to choose which will help us more.... even if it hurts our feelings.

There is compelling evidence that there may be a planet beyond Pluto that actually fits the spot to be a planet. We have not seen the planet itself yet but there is one proof that it does exist. There are astroids that are orbiting at a weird angle implying that there is another planet in our system. There will need to be future test and searches but this does give us a insight that there is more to the milky way.
Planets and space are always a good subject to learn about since we still need to learn a lot more about it. There is much more we haven't seen and it could be right in front of our faces. This planet is proof that we haven't seen everything in our solar system. This will be the something great to learn about just to see a glimpse into the future.
We might need better technology to see the planet at the moment but it will be found to be a fact in the future one of these days. With technology growing everyday sooner or later we will see everything. Discoveries are out there and we will find them.

A disease has been spreading around Latin America called Zika. This is a disease that can cause infants to have a small head at birth. It used to be a much rarer disease but misquitos have been running rampant spreading the disease to pregnant women. El Salvador has decided to tell their people to not have children till 2018 in fear of giving them the disease. Health inspectors have even started fumigating houses to get the bugs out.
My family is in El Salvador so i wanted to see the problems that have been happening in the country. This disease might not affect my family but this might scare many women that want to have children as a dream. I can imagine many people being upset about this whole mess and possibly blaming the government for this. There might be many people that will still have children and cause a problem which is why i decided to check this out.
A way to solve this is to possibly get another country to help with the situation. Since this disease might spread to other countries then others should help with research.
