ScrAPES #4 "After a Mass Extinction, Only the Small Survive"

Author:Unknown      Date: Nov. 12 2015      Here is the link!

There was a study that found out many animals that survive extinction are found to be very small. Ma.y big animals today are facing extinction are very big as well which may be a hint to the future. There was a mass extinction 359 million years ago in which many animals became extinct but from the ones that survived, many of them were very small in size. Many animals were now smaller than they were before and less than the average size. With bigger sizes animals would not reproduce as much so many were lost to never roam the Earth again.

Animals have always been an interesting topic when it comes to science since we lose and gain many of them. Large animals like giraffes and sharks are cool to look at but we are losing many of them and soon there won't be any of them. I remember seeing many endangered animals before so when i found this article and decided to see how it was like. Now that I saw this I would like to see these animals a few more times before they die out.

Big animals need to be taken care of so that they won't be lost. If we were to take care of some in zoos are look at them in the wilderness we could have less extinctions and more animals altogether. More small animals are surviving but there aren't enough big animals to eat or kill them quick enough to lower a population. With more big animals order could be restored in nature and we could save some beautiful creatures.

ScrAPES # 3 "Detergent wipes are spreading superbugs through hospitals"

Author:J. D. Heyes    Date: June 16 2015         Here It Is!!

Super bugs have been around for a while now. They are bugs that are immune to some antibiotics thanks to us overusing them and them evolving. Now they are getting into America and are starting to infect people. Because super bugs are able to handle antibiotics they are able to survive getting wiped by the wipes and go into the body to get them sick. Super bugs kill up to 48,000 people per year which is very bad for the future and needs to be solved.

I've heard about super bugs a long time ago and decided I would like to learn about them a bit more. These diseases could become a big problem in the future and could become a huge problem for doctors. With people already dying to normal diseases this could just mean more death so I wanted to know more. Other then scare me that we have these diseases this helped me see how we have overused such important goods and are now paying the price.

Doctors are already thinking of ways to solve this dilemma without much problem. One big way doctors can solve this is if they start using silver and copper as walls and floors. Test have already been made and they have found that they reduce the amount bacteria on them by 97% which is huge. Also they have started making more medicine that these diseases haven't seen yet. It will be possible to combat this and we might be safe.

Scrapes # 9 "Why are orangutans endangered?"

Author: Liz Osborn     Date unknown link : Here it is!

The article was about and animal the orange orangutans and how they are almost extinct. They haven't been doing well lately with numbers falling. They haven't been able to find much food according to researchers and has also been used to test medications and products. They have not been treated to well by humans before so the toll is finally being seen now. With them disappearing the food chain could get messed up.

I chose this article since orangutans have been endangered for a while and decided to see why they were endangered in the first place. I've heard many things but didn't know the facts. Even though the answer should have been simple I still wanted to check anyways. Being certain is better than not knowing.

Whenever we see them they are a rare sight. One thing we could do to help them is get them in zoos to repopulate inside. That way they will be save without the worry of death from disease. By doing this they will repopulate to possibly a safe amount and survive the extinction. We also need to stop stealing their environment from them. They need the land to sleep and create colonies.
